Wastewater treatment operations result in direct emissions of gases such as methane (CH₄) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) through biological processes, as well as indirect emissions through energy generation. These gases are byproducts of the removal of ammonia from water. In cogeneration plants--which make use of both heat and power--methane is produced in electricity generation, while hydrogen sulfide is an impurity found in flue gas. Wastewater treatment plants would benefit from analyzing operational factors that influence their emissions--which can be performed using our continuous emissions monitoring instruments.
