Research & Development

Unisearch Associates team is dedicated to research and development--both internal and external. Our team of physicists, chemists and engineers conducts internal R & D for the continuous improvement of the gas measurement and monitoring equipment we supply. We also provide external R & D services to clients who require gas measurement solutions engineered to meet their unique needs. Our 5,000+ sq ft facility is equipped with the latest technology to help us to develop CEMS equipment and other products that are at the leading edge of the industry.

Internal research and development projects include:

  • Quantum Cascade Laser Monitor - We have developed Quantum Cascade laser-based systems to extend our measurement capabilities to the mid-infrared region.
  • Near-IR LasIR - This project involved extending our near-infrared laser product line to work with longer and shorter wavelengths, allowing for the detection of a greater variety of gas species.
  • UV-VIS DOAS - Development of a Differential Optical Absorption Spectrometer system for in-situ, extractive and remote sensing measurements of species not ameniable to TDL measurements.

External research and development projects include:

  • CO and CO2 Monitoring - We took measurements at coal-fired power plants to help improve their NOx emissions reduction strategies.
  • CO and CO2Measurements - Developed a system for the vacuum degas steel processing to improve the quality of the final product and eliminate failed heats which result in product loss.
  • HCl Monitoring - We have measured HCl emissions and developed a protocol for CEMS monitoring of this gas to increase measurement accuracy and reduce response time and maintenance intervals. This project was conducted for the EPRI and the EPA.
